Is AI really changing everything or will it really change nothing? Mo Gawad a former senior Google engineer thinks it will change everything. What do you think?

Mo Gawdat is an Egyptian software engineer, entrepreneur, and author, best known as the former Chief Business Officer of Google’s [X] (the company’s “moonshot factory” innovation lab) and for his work on the science of happiness and the implications of artificial intelligence (AI).

Here are the three LLM’s we focus on for the first workshop –

AI and the Actionist Workshops
Session 1: Cool Tools – Part 1

Really, this session should have been called “Cool People, Cool Tools” because it was as much an introduction to each other as to the AI tools. We spent time listening to one another as a whole group and discovered a wealth of experience, abilities, and connections.

Kiran introduced us to the Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability and the room we were to use, and he helped us log on so that we could try out the chatbots — Large Language Models (LLMs) — that Gavin introduced. Gavin suggested that group members try out ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini as examples of LLMs.

The term LLM was unfamiliar to some. Simply put, a Large Language Model (LLM) is a type of AI that learns patterns in language so it can understand questions and generate human-like answers.

The next session of the AI and the Actionist Workshops is on Tuesday, 25th November.

Gavin noted that:

  1. Participants who want to continue should register again for the 25th November workshop using the Luma registration page, which will be available by Friday.
  2. Participants should register on Newham Mosaic at https://newhammosaic.org/mosaic-registration/, as most of the workshop resources and information will be on that website. There, you’ll also be able to give feedback and help develop it as part of the “borough brain.”
  3. Participants should get an account on an LLM and start using it. ChatGPT and Claude are Gavin’s personal favourites, but feel free to try any of them.
  4. LLMs are only one form of generative AI — that is, AI which creates content. In addition to text generators, there are image and music generators, which we’ll be exploring in future workshops starting on 25th November.

Attendees:
Gavin, Lia, Kiran, Halima, Desmond, Rose, Peter, Colin, Patricia, Yommy, Kevin, Sharif, Shona

Apologies:
Akik, Mavis, Daniell
