DREAMS After Dark: ‘Open Mike’ Session

I’d like to thank Shona Pollock for filming me saying a few words at St Mark’s Church in Beckton, where The People’s Emergency Briefing film was being shown. You can see Shona at the beginning of the video.

This is my first post on the Mosaic Events Calendar.

Think of DREAMS After Dark, at 10:00 pm on Fridays, as a late-night show where there is no audience—only participants. That’s us: listening to one another and building community through dialogue. DREAMS is an acronym for Dialogue, Reflection, Ethics, Awareness, Meditation, and Storytelling.

One of the things I valued most about The People’s Emergency Briefing was that it brought people together. That’s what we need.

“If you wait for governments, it will be too late.
If we act as individuals, it will be too little.
If we act as communities, it might just be enough.”

This quotation from Ben Brangwyn appeared on the screen after the screening. I think it captures something important. We need community. We need to make the effort to build it and to make it strong enough to bring about profound change.

How do we begin? I think we start with dialogue. The depth of our dialogue is the depth of our community.

DREAMS After Dark, and the other things I do, are simply attempts to create one space—hopefully one of many—where we can build communities through thoughtful, empowering dialogue.
