AI Friend and Foe – is the theme of Session 5 of the NAIC Workshops.

Last Tuesday evening, 13th January 2026, seven of us gathered for the fourth NAIC workshop at the Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability on UEL’s Docklands Campus. It was 6.00 pm in January, already dark, and it had been raining steadily all day. I appreciated, genuinely, that Halima, Rose R., Paul, Des, Clement and Roshan chose to make the journey and show up in those conditions.

Halima, Rose R., Paul and Des had attended previous workshops. Clement and Roshan joined us for the first time.

I had two main aims for that session:

for participants to gain a clear understanding of the Negotiating AI as a Community (NAIC) project, and

for participants to sign up to the Newham Mosaic website, which I see as a potential space for ongoing exploration, dialogue and development around community in general, and the intentional empowerment of community in particular.

The second aim was achieved. The first, less so — though that is not unusual when a project is still forming through conversation rather than presentation. I hope this message, together with our upcoming fifth NAIC workshop, will help clarify both the intention of the NAIC project and my invitation for you to be part of the group shaping it.

NAIC Workshop 5

Tuesday 20th January 2026
6.00 pm
Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability (RDCS)

After Session 5, the workshops will pause until Tuesday 3rd February 2026. During February, the invitation to join the NAIC exploration, dialogue and development group will remain open, as we work towards consolidating a core team around the shared purpose of:

Exploring and developing tools and practices that help communities think together.

You are very welcome to attend the session on Tuesday even if you have not joined previous workshops.

If you’re interested, please contact me at gavin.sealey+NAIC@gmail.com and register on Newham Mosaic here:

The theme for Session 5 is “AI: Friend and Foe.”
Let’s explore it together.

Warm regards,
Gavin

…all about the power of the group and the community to influence and make a difference in the face of Billionaires and the American Govenment’s support for them
